When and where you take the Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN®) exam is determined by what test format you choose. The paper-and-pencil exam is offered twice a year nationally, and also at the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses' (AMSN) Annual Convention and the Nursing Symposium. The exam dates are set, and you choose your exam site from the list offered below. Find out how to bring a test site to your hospital.

The computer-based testing exam is offered year-round and you choose your exam site from the list offered below. Each exam site gives the exam between two to six times a week. You choose when to take the exam within an assigned period of 90 days (rollover for more information)You will be assigned a period of 90 days after you register for the exam. The window starts when the permit is sent (about 6-8 weeks after you register). You will need to schedule your appointment within the 90 days., based on the availability of your schedule and the testing site's appointments. It is recommended you schedule your appointment as soon as you are able. You can reschedule within the period of 90 days.
