The C62 Inpatient Unit, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, has received the AMSN PRISM Award® for exceptional nursing practice, leadership, and outcomes. MSNCB President Mimi Haskins, presented unit staff with their award May 24, 2017, during a celebration at the hospital.

Item Writers Meet at MSNCB Headquarters
The CMSRN Item Writers gathered at the MSNCB National Office in Pitman, NJ, in July to develop new questions for the CMSRN exam. They worked with Elaine Zimbler and Peg Garbin, representatives from the Center for Nursing Education and Testing (C-NET), our testing agency. Pictured are (front row from left): Elaine Zimbler, Peg Garbin; and Donna Rozar; and (back row, from left): Drew Schofield, Jessica Borthwick, Cynthia Frazer, Renee Pate, and Dora Iska Okello. Recertification Application Deadline Reminder
Please allow up to 10 business days for your self-reported contact hours to be reviewed and verified. After all your required CEs are verified, submit your application at least 30 days before your expiration date to avoid a late fee. (Note: Effective January 1, 2018, recertification applications will be accepted online only via your CMSRN Tracker or CCCTM Tracker).

Traveler: Your License May Not Work at Airports in 2018
Important news for Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Washington travelers: Starting January 22, 2018, drivers' licenses issued by these states will no longer be accepted at TSA checkpoints. They fail to meet the federal government’s minimum security standards under the Real ID Act. Instead, domestic flight travelers will have to use another form of identification such as a passport, military ID, or resident card.

An article by Diana Harmon, MSN, MHA, RN, CCCTM, Chairperson, Certified in Care Coordination and Transition Management (CCCTM™) Test Development and Item Writers committees, Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board (MSNCB), has been included in a USA Today supplement, Investing in Our Nurses, published by MediaPlanet. The supplement was distributed nationally May 12 to coincide with National Nurses Week. Diana’s article is entitled “A New and Important Certification for Those Called to Serve,” and is expected to be read online by an estimated 3+ million readers. The article describes how patients are falling through the cracks in today’s health care system due to the lack of coordinated care, and how RNs are uniquely qualified to provide this crucial service. Diana also outlines the value of CCCTM certification for nurses, patients, facilities, and the entire U.S. health care system.
