Retaking the Exam

The CMSRN certification exam is a national exam that represents how medical-surgical nurses practice in all kinds of settings, from rural to urban, in small and large hospitals.

First-Time Retake Discount

$75 off eligible application fees.

A candidate who does not pass the first CMSRN exam may retake the exam with a one-time only first-time retake discount, valid for 4 months after the exam date. The discount becomes active approximately 4 weeks after the exam date. You will be notified by email when your discount becomes active.

Not applicable for MSNCB FailSafe Certification Program™ candidates.

Application

Candidates retaking the CMSRN exam will be able to apply approximately 4 weeks after the last exam date. Use the same login information you used on the first application for the discount to be applied automatically at checkout. 

To retake the CMSRN exam, a new application and fees must be submitted. About 3-5 weeks after applying, you will receive a new exam permit by email and mail from our testing agency, C-NET, with a new 90-day window.
