Autumn Updates: Changes to the Board, Exciting Start for CCCTM, and What’s on the Horizon

Mimi Haskins

Dear CMSRN Colleagues,

Hello and happy fall!

I hope everyone enjoyed Med-Surg Nurses Week and is re-energized for another year. As we get back into our routine following the 2015 AMSN Annual Convention and our MSNCB Board Meeting, I wanted to share some of the highlights from the past few months.

Mimi Haskins

I want to introduce and welcome the newest member of the MSNCB Board, Samantha (Sami) Zych, MSN, RN, CEN, CMSRN. Sami is a nurse manager at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Erie, PA. She is completing the term of former board member Carlo Piriano, who resigned earlier this year.

It was with sadness that the Board bid farewell to Karen Gregg, as her term ended this September. Karen was liaison to the Recertification Committee, and for the past 2 years, was Board Treasurer. Thank you, Karen, for all your hard work on our behalf, you will be missed.

At the AMSN Convention, I had the privilege of awarding our first CMSRN of Distinction Award to Patricia Peck, of Oak Lawn, Il. That was the highlight of the convention for me because I was able to share in Pat’s excitement at being chosen. Please check out the AMSN Website to view the pictures from convention and see Pat with her award.

Our Certified in Care Coordination and Transition Management (CCCTM) exam has launched and within the first 48 hours had over 20 people signed up. We are excited about even more successes to come.

The Board is in the process of collaborating with other nursing certification boards to identify and conduct research related to certification and patient outcomes. This is a topic that has been of interest to us for awhile and we are pleased to see it move forward. Stay tuned for more news in our next issue of Certification Central.
