Mimi Haskins, MS, RN, CMSRN
As your new MSNCB president, I am writing today to keep you informed about the latest news from the Board of Directors as well as exciting plans for the future that will have a direct impact on current and future CMSRNs.
We had a very productive Board meeting in Nashville recently during the AMSN 2013 Annual Convention, and now it's time to implement some of our strategies.
However, before I report on activities, I first want to thank Cindy Ward, our immediate past president for her contributions to MSNCB. Cindy has worked tirelessly to ensure that our Board provided top-quality products and services to more than 18,000 CMSRNs, and my plan is that our Board will continue with that endeavor.
I would also like to extend a warm welcome to our newest director, Antoinette (Ann) Falker, who joined the Board in September. Ann is a clinical nurse specialist at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO, and we are looking forward to working with her.
We will be implementing some of our Strategic Plan initiatives throughout the coming year. You will be hearing more about our initiatives and our plans to roll them out in future issues of Certification Central and on the MSNCB Facebook page. The mission of MSNCB is to validate excellence in medical-surgical nursing and to let the world know certification is the recognized path for medical-surgical nurses to build and demonstrate commitment, confidence, and credibility. So stay tuned!
As you may know, MSNCB put out a call for our CMSRNs to share their stories while at the AMSN Convention and share they did! I had the pleasure of interviewing several of our certificants. Their stories about why they became certified and what impact it had on their practice were absolutely amazing. My colleague, MSNCB Director Jane Kearns, also had the opportunity to conduct interviews and felt the same as I did. Once the videos are edited and ready, we plan to share them with all of you via the website and Facebook, so stay tuned; you are in for a treat!
Speaking of the convention, AMSN sponsored an ice cream social to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of MSNCB and the CMSRN credential. This was a fun and satisfying way to say "Congratulations!" to our CMSRN certificants and to thank them for their interest and commitment to MSNCB certification. MSNCB will now be providing a CMSRN pin for our certificants with their recertification that will designate 5 or 10 years.
MSNCB was also proud to sponsor the Keynote address at the convention. It was presented by Dr. Mary Naylor, who discussed transitional care.
The Board is continuing our support of the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) research related to certified registered nurses and better patient outcomes. We promise to keep you up to date on what the data reveal.
I am looking forward to my term as president and working with the MSNCB Board and staff to make your experience as a CMSRN a great one.
